Porsche 911 GT3 996 Gets Stretched

Porsche 911 GT3 996 Gets Stretched
A Porsche 911 is a Porsche 911, regardless of the generation it belongs to and we’re here to give you an example of that. We are talking about a 996 generation 911 GT3, which has recently received some tuning attention and now looks extremely fresh.

The vehicle has been gifted with a set of Work rims, that come in a 20-inch size and use 305/25/ tires for the rear axle and 255/30 tires for the front one. As for the stretching mentioned in the title of the article, those fat rear tires required the rear fenders to be rolled.

The 911 GT3 also received 997 headlights, as well as a tweaked 997 front fascia and thus has become even more tempting. The black centers of the rims match the dark tint of the windows, offering a bad boy image to the rear-engined coupe.

Spyshots: 2013 Porsche 911 Targa 991

Spyshots: 2013 Porsche 911 Targa 991
We’ll quote Bob Marley for the start of this article: “Don’t worry, be happy”, Porsche isn’t going to turn the next 911 Targa into a car that requires the owner to manually remove the glass top. This rumor was the first that came to our minds when we saw the adjacent spyshots of the car. If you take a close look, you’ll notice that the canvas and the composite material rear window are fake, being used just to hide the true details of the car.

However, the 991 generation of the 911 Targa will bring back the central roll bar, borrowed from the original 1960s’ Targa, but the massive glass panel in front of it is expected to fold electrically behind the roll bar. Porsche has done a great job reinventing the soft top for the Cabrio versions of the new 991 generation, so we’re expecting the new Targa roof to also be a technical masterpiece.

The should borrow its tech side from the Carrera and Carrera S versions, which means that if you go for the standard one, you’ll get a 3.4-liter flat six delivering 350 hp, while the sportier model will be powered by a 3.8-liter flat six with 400 hp. Porsche is expected to launch the four-wheel drive versions of the Carrera and Carrera S by the end of the year and thus there will also be Targa incarnations of these ones.

Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 4S Wrap: Graphite Metallic

Porsche 911 (997) Carrera 4S Wrap: Graphite Metallic
You know how Porsche design is a game of millimeters? You move the lights closer by 12 mm, add 22 mm of LEDs and you have a completely new car for people to spend their hundreds of thousands on.

That’s because the 911 is the sort of car that has really made history. Thus, the shape has not drastically changed in half a century, and most people instantly recognize one when they see it.

That’s why changing the color of the 911 has to be changed only a bit to make it more modern. Today, we bring you a car wrap project from Russian tuners Re-Styling, who have covered a 997 generation Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in “Graphite Metallic”.

This is a color we normally associate with previous generation BMW 3-Series, but they clearly made it work on a Porsche.

To get the vinyl foil on the car, they had to to completely strip the car, taking off the chrome, the lights and even the reflective bar at the back that’s known as the 3S’ trademark.

Champion Motorsport: Porsche 911 RSR Becomes Street-Legal

Champion Motorsport: Porsche 911 RSR Becomes Street-Legal
Champion Motorsport has taken its obsession for the Porsche 911 to the next level with its latest project, which aims to offer the world a road-going version of the 911 RSR racer.

The aftermarket developer used a 2011 911 Turbo S as a starting point, with the vehicle receiving 68 mm variable turbine geometry turbochargers (along with a long list of engine mods), an adjustable Ohlins coilover suspension, as well as Champion Motorsport wheels, which use a concave multi-spoke design that seems to be able to mix form with function in a perfect way.

The car has been dressed in a carbon fiber body kit, with the aerodynamics being extremely well taken care of - the tuner used items such as a flat underbody and a generously-sized rear wing.

Champion Motorsport hasn’t released the full details for the 911 RSR, but we can tell you that the vehicle comes with a financial burden of $399,000 (EUR318,000 at the current exchange rates).

Car Crash: Lindsay Lohan Wrecks Rented Porsche 911

Car Crash: Lindsay Lohan Wrecks Rented Porsche 911
One of the biggest stories currently doing the rounds on the internet celebrity gossip sites involves Lindsay Lohan and a brand new Porsche (991) 911. It appears that Lohan has had yet another accident during the week, writing off the brand new Porsche by crashing into the back of a truck. TMZ reports that Lohan was temporarily hospitalised by the incident, however, we are told that she was not injured.

Reports suggest that Lohan was driving the Porsche at the time with her assistant in the passenger seat. There is some suggestion that the car was a rental. The entire front was wrecked as the car clearly hit the back of an 18-wheel truck. Lohan reportedly blamed the accident on the truck driver changing lanes without any indication. The truck driver appears to be claiming the opposite, that Lohan simply drove into the back of trailer.

Following the incident, Lohan was bundled into the back of a Cadillac Escalade and taken to hospital while her assistant was taken in an Ambulance. Police are investigating the incident and have confirmed so far that neither of the drivers were intoxicated.

Lindsay Lohan Crashes Porsche 911

Lindsay Lohan Crashes Porsche 911
We’ve just learned that actress and socialite Lindsey Lohan saw the bad end of an eighteen wheeler. Yes, 25 year old just can’t seem to catch a break and has crashed a Porsche 911 into a truck.

Was she distracted because she was thinking how long it’s been since her last media scandal? According to a TMZ report we can at least take alcohol off the list since law enforcers reportedly tested both her and the truck driver, and both weren’t driving under the influence.

The 911 loops a mangled, with the whole front section of the car being completely crumpled up. Witnesses at the scene of the accident say Lindsey was bleeding and bruised, as was her passenger, a personal assistant.

The Hollywood star says she was not to blame for the accident, which took place on he Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, California, as the eighteen wheeler cut her off. However, as the accident took place on a straight piece of road and the Porsche hit the back of the other vehicle, it doesn’t sound that good of an explanation.

What’s more, it wasn’t really her Porsche 911, as it was actually a rental car. Yes, it’s the brand new 911that just came out at the beginning of the year, and it’s a Carrera S, so it wasn’t cheap. Oh dear Lindsey, we hope you get better, but you need a driver and a slower car!

Porsche 911 GT2 R Sportec In Action

Porsche 911 GT2 R Sportec In Action

Youtube Mikesupercars filmed this very unique Porsche GT2 R Sportec at Gran Turismo Events Nurburgring. The green monster used to be just a regular 2008 997-generation GT2, until the guys at Sportec kitted it out with all the bells and whistles and tuned it into a real track monster.

For the road, this setup would be utterly ridiculous, but for the track you won’t be able to say this doesn’t stand out in the right sort of way. The car is also incredibly fast, as you’re about to see in this video. The sound this car makes is intense and the flybys are pretty fast!

“I've had the car for a while now, it initially started out as a totally stock '08 997 GT2 and has been modified step by step over the past two years. Last winter I decided to give it a try and went a step further. The idea was to build something special which would fully correspond to what I see as the perfect track toy. The complete project only took around three and a half months. All the work has been done by the guys at Sportec in Switzerland,” the owner of the car says.

Stock Aventador vs Switzer Porsche 911 Turbo

Stock Aventador vs Switzer Porsche 911 Turbo
American tuner Switzer Performance has a number of power kits for the Porsche 911 Turbo ,and apparently, one of them offers you 900 horepower. That should be enough for any drag racer to go under 10 seconds on the quarter mile, but they do thing differently in Russia.

This footage taken by DragTimesInfo shows the awesome 950 horsepower Porsche 911 Turbo taking one the fastest of the Italian exotics at the Moscow Mile. The Aventador puts in a respectable time but is actually made to look slow by the Aventador.

At the mile finish line, the Aventador which is 250 horsepower down on its German rival is almost two seconds behind and we’d be raging at our bull if that happened to us. Fortunately, Underground Racing has just developed a turbo kit for the mighty V12, which reportedly pushes the output all the way to 1200 horsepower, more than enough to fight off the nippy German.

Gemballa GT Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet Aerokit

Gemballa GT Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet Aerokit
Following our first review of the new 911 (991 Series) Coupe and the tuning programs from TechArt and SpeedArt, it was time to have a look at the brand new 2012 Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet, which is the sum of 30 years of 911 convertibles. In the end it has a similar setup as the 991 Coupe, but with the ability to remove the roof electronically. German tuner Gemballa provided a 991 Carrera S convertible fitted with their latest kit as our ride for the day.

The most noticeable and fundamental difference with our previous experiences inside the new 991 was the new roof. Like previous 911s, Porsche added an intelligent system to the car, which offers a good-looking Coupe-like silhouette when its closed and excellent open-top drive when it is opened. But it is not simply the old top on the new car. The new roof is an evolution with respect to its predecessor.

The new panel bow roof design has solid magnesium panels hidden beneath the fabric surface. These create a smooth and rigid finish and an excellent cover when the roof is closed. The design also includes the use of aluminum and high strength steel, which ensures lower vehicle mass. The roof system adds a total of only 36kg to the weight of the car. You can open and close the roof up to a speed of 50km/h and it finishes its roof dance after just 13 seconds.
Gemballa GT Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet Aerokit
Under the roof cover, you will be able to find the 3.8 liter flat-six engine producing 400hp at 7,400rpm, and 325lb-ft of maximum torque at 5,600rpm. The 911 Carrera S Cabriolet with PDK manages to accelerate from naught to 100km/h in 4.5 seconds. Pressing the Sport Plus button on the optional Sport Chrono package cuts that to 4.3 seconds (add 0.2 for manual cars). The top speed is 299km/h, five lower than the Coupe.

Our test car was fitted with the automatic gearbox and PDK option, like we drove before. The new PDK-gearbox offers ultrafast shifts and launch control which propels you forward easily from standstill. Without any of the sport functions engaged, the gearbox fails in every single way because of its environmental, petrol saving throttle response and constant urge to end up in a lower rev range and a higher gear. The immediate up-shifts to 6th and 7th are annoying at first and constantly ask for a decent amount of throttle response to get pace or a downshift via the buttons or paddle shifters behind the steering.

The only way to get this new 991 convertible going is – like the 991 Coupe – engage any type of sport setting you can find on the center console. It is inevitable in this 991. The convertible changes completely when Sport or Sport Plus is selected. The 911 becomes rewarding and provides you with a type of sporty handling and steering you should always ask for in a 911. The boring 911 changes into a full-bred sports car with its full array of capabilities available for you to challenge even with the roof down! Why can’t you just leave on Sport Plus all the time, Porsche? Without it even a Korean sedan feels more rewarding.
Gemballa GT Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet Aerokit
So what did Gemballa add to the equation. The Germans offer a body kit, wheel package and exhaust system for the 911 Coupe and Convertible. The body kit from the specialist from Leonberg features new front and rear bumpers and side skirts. Designed to fit to the car using the factory mounting points, these Gemballa components are a straight swap for the original parts, and the conversion is completely reversible should you ever wish to return the car to standard.

The 21 inch ultra-light five-spoke forged alloy wheels complete the exterior package and aren’t a major influence to the handling and ride quality of the 2012 Porsche 911. The exterior upgrades provide a more aggressive look to the stock 911. The larger air inlets with double fins at the front channel more air to the front brakes and the engine for cooling. At the rear the two air inlets channel out the hot air from the rear brakes.

The exhaust is a story on its own. The six end pipes reveal its origin as being a Gemballa and are equally divided between the left and the right. With the exhaust vales open the engine breathes more easily and speaks with a deeper and more distinctive voice. The sound track is filled with backfire and a high volume scream. Not something you would expect from a 911 Carrera S and better than any of the stock offerings.
Gemballa GT Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet Aerokit
On the inside, the cabin offers the same refinement as the coupe. Gemballa added some logos on the floor mates, the door sills and the steering wheel. The interior has some Panamera-style to it, with a more enclosed and luxurious feel. The driving position is spot on, and the seats feel both sporty and comfortable. The new electrically operated wind deflector pops up from behind the rear seats at the push of a button and offers you the option between two additional rear seats and wind blocking without installing a manual equivalent. Quite a nice solution!
The 2012 Porsche 911 (991) Cabriolet is all what we thought it would be, a 991 Coupe without a roof. Even though the roof is an evolution in the world of electric roofs, the car’s sheer ability to bring a smile on our face is only applicable when the Sport Plus mode is engaged and paddle shifters are fitted. The ability to remove the roof did not change our opinion on the car. The 991-era is losing its sporting focus in the face of customer demand for comfort and refinement.

However, Gemballa opened our eyes and ears with their great looking rims, aggressive body kit and backfiring exhaust system. The end pipes may not be everybody’s choice, but the system is a clear winner for us bringing the mild 991 into a completely different league sound wise.

Spyshots: Porsche 911 Carrera 4S
Did you enjoy reading about the precise handling of the new 911 Carrera? Are you excited about the possibility of a tri-turbo 991 Turbo? Forget all about that, this is the car you actually want in the real world, the brand new Carrera 4S.

The car has been spotted for the first time by our spy photographers as it was undergoing track testing on the famous Nurburgring in Germany. You can tell this is the all-wheel drive 4S we’re dealing with due to the wider arches and the light strip that’s covered up at the back.

We expect that towards the end of 2012, Porsche will introduce all-wheel drive to the new 911, which will be available in combination with a 350 horsepower flat-six engine in the Carrera 4 and with 400 horsepower in the Carrera 4S.

What’s clear is that we have a lot of new 911s coming up, including the new Turbo, the GT3 and a Targa model.

You may remember our story last month about Bill Gates’ 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo being for sale. The German sports car previously owned by the Microsoft guru was heading up for auction with an expected sales price between $ 55,000 and $ 71,000.

The final price was 9,000 US dollar higher than expected at $ 80,000. A German bidder bought the car via the phone during the auction in Vienna.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Carrera 4S 991 EPA Numbers Surface

Porsche 911 Carrera 4, Carrera 4S 991 EPA Numbers Surface
Porsche should officially release the four-wheel drive versions of the Carrera and Carrera S this fall, at the Paris Auto Show, but the EPA numbers for the vehicles are already here, confirming the expected release.

The 911 Carrera 4 will return 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, when using Porsche’s PDK double clutch gearbox, while if you opt for the seven-speed manual gearbox, you’ll only lose 1 mpg (this is true for both numbers). If you want to let the wind run through your hair in the Cabrio model, you will see the highway mileage dropping to 27 mpg (26 mpg for the manual).

As for the 911 Carrera 4S, this will return 19 mpg on urban roads and 26 mph on the highway. Again, these are the figures for the double clutch gearbox. The manual leaves the highway mpg untouched, while reducing the city one by a single mpg.
