It looks that worldwide customers looking to buy the next big thing in motoring, the M5 or the M6, will have to wait another year to get their gold painted calipers. That’s because BimmerPost has confirmed with BMW that the optional Carbon Ceramic Brakes that were supposed to be an optional extra won’t be available until 2013.
It’s not yet clear if this means the 2014 model year US model will be any different, or when the extra-powerful and non-fading brakes will be available. But it clear that at least for now you’ll have to make due with the M Compound Brakes, the standard steel-aluminum compound ones.
The upgrade available next year will increase the diameter of the brakes from 400 mm to 410 mm at the front, while the disks stay the same at the back. The weight reduction to be expected is 19.4 kg or 42,8 pounds.
The optional brakes were originally expected in July this year, but now we’re looking at March 2013 at the latest.
