BMW Z1 Turns 25

BMW Z1 Turns 25
BMW has somewhat lost its edge with the current generation Z4 and has promised us the next one will be lighter and sportier. But it’s easy to forget the car that started it all.

The car that started it all, the Z1 was a strange little so and so. It was really compact, low off the ground and you could trop the doors into the sills to get that wind in your shorts experience.

The Z1 is turning 25 this year, and BMW will celebrate with a special tour taking place from June 2nd to the 9th. In a couple of days from now, on Friday June 8th, they will be visiting the BMW facilities in Munich.

Production of the think-tank based car took place between March 1989 and June 1991, after which BMW came up with the Z3. The platform for he Z1 came from the E30 3-Series coupe and the last one was built by hand, also being the last right-hand drive model.
