German automaker Opel has finally unveiled the forth model of Astra range, a four-door notchback sedan that should be ideal for accommodating people on longer trips. The car will be available starting this month.
European customers will be offered a choice of seven engines, four gasoline and three diesels, specifiable in combination with a six-speed automatic gearbox. These offer outputs ranging from 95 hp in case of the most economical diesel to 180 horsepower in the case of the 1.6-liter Astra Turbo.
New to the Astra range are a pair of 1.7 CDTI ecoFLEX engines with Start/Stop system and further efficiency enhancing technologies, which offer outputs of 110 hp or 130 hp with diesel consumption figures as low as 3.7 lt/100km and emissions of just 99 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
Proportion-wise, the Opel Astra sedan is 4,658 mm long, 1,814 mm wide and 1,476 in height. It rolls on a 2,685 mm wheebase and its trunk space is 460 liters, 90 liters more than the five-door model. By folding the 60:40 split rear bench flat the luggage volume can be increased up to a maximum of 1,010 liters.
“With its sporty and elegant design, the new Astra sedan re-energizes the compact four-door segment. Like all our Astras it is engineered in Rüsselsheim and offers a high level of technology and widely recognized quality,” says Opel CEO, Karl-Friedrich Stracke.
“Our new Astra notchback is an important part of our product offensive and plays a key role in our growth strategy. It is a stylish, more affordable alternative to many four-door sedans in the mid-size segment, therefore we see significant conquest potential in Western Europe. It will also play a leading role in substantially increasing our market share in key growth markets such as Russia and Turkey, where there is strong customer demand for compact cars with a separate luggage compartment,” he adds.
